'Make Moves Towards Solutions'

Confidentiality

It is understandable that you will be worried about confidentiality and you need to feel safe and supported.

Any information that you provide in the sessions will remain entirely confidential, except in exceptional circumstances.  These circumstances being that I would be obliged to break confidentiality if you indicated that there is risk of harm to yourself or another person (including children), or if there is good grounds for believing that you are no longer willing or able to take responsibility for your actions.  If you threatened the well being of another person or threatened an act of terrorism.  I would then be required by the British Psychological Society Code of Ethics to seek advice and guidance from other professionals such as my supervisor.  I would though attempt to discuss this fully with yourself first if this is possible.

Chartered Counselling Psychologists are required by the British Psychological Society (BPS) code of ethics to receive supervision on a regular basis for your safety and the safety of the counsellor.  It is also in order to maintain and enhance good practice by members of the BPS and to identify and protect clients from bad practice.  We are also required by the BPS that as long as we are practicing that we continue our personal and professional development and provide proof of this.

If you wish to access the BPS Code of Ethics or visit their website please go to:

http://www.bps.org.uk

You will be provided with full confidentiality details once you decide to proceed with counselling.
